Steph and I like to watch the National Geographic Channel and HD Theater every now and then so we don’t feel as bad about all the reality television we watch. About a month ago, on one of those channels, there was an episode about a man who was doing an extensive multi-year study on wolves. The guy adopted three cubs and raised them for several years in a typical pack lifestyle. He taught them how to hunt and kill and slowly developed their places within the pack. He went as far as to wear the same clothes everyday to keep the same scent and even wrestle with the wolves to maintain dominance. The craziest part was that he would get some kind of animal, take out its innards and cook them and then pack them back into the carcass and take it to the pack to eat. He cooked the innards so he could eat them in front of the others because they were the part of the animal the alpha wolf eats.
Obviously, it was a weird and interesting show. I told you all that to tell you this. When the man first received the wolf cubs, one of the first things he had to teach them was the pack howl. The show explained that the pack howl was unique to every pack and it was used for communication, to establish boundaries, and as a warning system against rival packs. After a couple howls, each of the cubs began howling back. It was pretty cool.
With that being said, take a look at this:
Before the video was started, we got him to do it like three times. Then we got him to do it again the next day and the day after that. Just call us the Gordon Pack. AWWOOOO!
Seriously though, that’s cute, right?
